It Takes A Village Preschool

Welcome to It Takes a Village Preschool!

Established in 1997, It Takes a Village Preschool is a quality education program accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We educate children 8 months to 4 years old and have a school age program.

Our Mission:
To promote an education to toddlers and preschoolers that addresses their needs in the areas of:
- Socialization
- Cognitive Development
- Fine and Gross Motor Skills
- Emotional Maturation

To develop partnerships with home and community to enhance the educational mindset of both parent and child.

GENERAL INFORMATION
We are open Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 5:30 pm. Our program is designed to provide a high quality learning environment that enable children to develop individually as well as part of a group.

Having received Accreditation, The Gold Seal of Approval as a Program of "high quality," we strive to perform best practices daily. Our class sizes are small and daily activities stem from the key indicators of the developmentally appropriate High/Scope curriculum. These key indicators include:

- Language, Literacy and Communication
- Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development, Health and Well-Being
- Mathematics
- Science and Technology
- Social Studies
- Dramatic Art
- Music

Our Programs also include:
- Chess
- Recreational/Educational field trips
- Transportation services
Our Food Program provides on-site meal preparation daily. Our children look forward to hot breakfast and lunch as well as a healthy snack.

WHAT'S THE HIGH/SCOPE EDUCATIONAL APPROACH?

  • High/Scope Students become independent, reasonable, and confident - ready for success in school.
  • High/Scope Students learn to plan their own activities, carry them out, and discuss what they have done with other children and their teacher.
  • High/Scope Students learn through active involvement with people, material, events and ideas.

HOME/SCHOOL CONNECTION:
It Takes A Village believe that families deserve to receive the appropriate support of services that address the needs of the entire family.

Monthly parent meetings and workshops are offered. Meeting topics include positive discipline, stress management, career development, health and wellness and much, much more.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
It Takes A Village offers an after-school program for children ages 4 -13. This program is held at the school's library, located at 492 Ocean Avenue. Students receive

- A light snack
- Homework assistance
- Supervised by an adult educator

Transportation is available upon request.

THE ABBOTT PROGRAM
The Abbott Program is the first judicially mandated preschool program in the nation. The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled in the Abbott vs. Burke case that all three-and four-year olds in New Jersey's high poverty, urban communities referred to as "Abbott Districts" receive high quality, well planned preschool. All 3 and 4 year old children who reside in the Abbott districts are eligible for preschool AT NO COST to parents, regardless of income or legal status.
